Upcoming Working Group Meeting and Chair Elections

Dear Working Group Member,

Following the call for candidacy for the positions of Chair and Vice Chair, the Water Working Group is happy to announce that the following people have put their names forward for the election, which will take place at the next Working Group meeting on Tuesday 4^th March 2014, 14:00pm-16:00pm, at the European Chamber Beijing:

Chair Position:

·           Mr. Huang Xiao Jun, Veolia

Two Vice Chair Positions:

·           Mr. Simon Spooner, Atkins

·           Mr. Guillaume Mizon, Veolia (to be represented by Mr. Zhang Jun, Veolia)

·           Mr. Sven Czekalla, M&P Engineering

The Water Working Group Chairs play a crucial role in driving the Working Group. In order to register a vote for the elections, according to European Chamber practices, you must be present at the Working Group meeting.

Agenda:

-      Elections

-      Presentation with Q&A: “China-Europe Water Platform”, by Ms. Marta Moren, DG Environment, European Commission.

-      Presentation with Q&A: “New policy trends in the water sector, and the potential business opportunities”, by Mr. Zhang Liao, Jumbo Consulting.

-      Open discussion to define the Key Recommendations for next year’s Water Working Group Position Paper.

Ms. Marta Moren from DG Environment of the European Commission is visiting Beijing in early March. She has now been designated as the focal point of the European Commission under the China Europe Water Platform (CEWP), which is a policy mechanism in cooperation with China's Ministry of Water Resources.

Ms. Moren will introduce herself and her role regarding CEWP, then give a 10min presentation on the partnership instrument and how we may be able to work with the EU Commission and the Delegation in promoting European innovations, services and technologies in the water sector. This will be followed by a 10min Q&A session.

Mr. ZHANG Liao from Jumbo Consulting is an expert in Public-Private-Partnership, and serves as an advisor for a number of ministries. He will talk for 20mins about the new policy trends in the water sector, and the potential business opportunities. This will be followed by a 20min Q&A session.

As always, we welcome your suggestions for possible agenda topics and speakers for this and future meetings.
