This seminar will provide an update on current practices in dealing with Trade Unions in International Companies in China.
The global economic crisis of 2008 revealed that the Chinese accumulation model with its high export surpluses and massive state investment in infrastructure has reached its limit. Official guidelines such as the 12th Five-year-program make it clear that the leadership has strong intentions to foster economic growth by boosting the domestic market, e.g. by raising low wages. Recently, there have been several collective labor disputes and mass labor disturbances taking place around China, posing great challenges to the companies. Our seminar will provides insights into the latest development and current practices in dealing with trade unions in characteristics of Chinese trade unions and its impact on international companies.

Speakers
Dr. Iris Duchetsmann
Iris is a German lawyer working in China and partner of the international law firm Clyde & Co. She specialises in labour law, particularly aspects that involve cross-border employment and international HR management. She also provides advice on matters such as residency, tax and social security. Iris has extensive work experience in China, Asia and Germany. Before joining private practice she worked as an in-house lawyer in the HR department of a multinational, gaining insights into corporate processes. Her clients include international corporations, other enterprises and executives from various industry sectors, including automotive, energy, transportation, chemical, media, textile, consulting, etc. Iris is a native German speaker, fluent in English and has a good command of Mandarin Chinese. She is a frequent speaker and author on international and national labour law and HR topics. Iris has been elected as Vice Chair of the EUCCC HR Forum since 2010 and has been sitting as member of the EUCCC Shanghai Board since 2012.
Ms. Lia Zuo
Lia is head of BMS China HR Business Partner in Bayer. Prior to joining Bayer in 2007, Lia had already got years of experience in several HR functions such as C&B, Recruiting, Training and Development, etc.
Lia took different positions with increasing job responsibilities in the past a few years within Bayer. She was assumed the position of Bayer site HR managers from 2007 until she came to be HR head of BMS China in 2011, starting from Jan. 2014, she is the head of BMS China HR Business Partner team. During the period, Lia developed deep knowledge as HR Business Partner.
Meanwhile she also played an important role in Trade Union of the company, know well how to cooperate among company, trade union, employees and HR to achieve the common goal.
Lia got EMBA degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Antai College of Economics & Management.
