European Chamber and ACEA
The automotive industry is wide and consists of both passenger cars as well as commercial vehicles from light to heavy gross vehicle weights. For the uninitiated person it may seem that these products share lots of similarities because they roll on wheels and are propelled by an engine. Hence a lot of rules and regulations that cover the whole automotive industry are not adapted to reflect the differences in design and in usage. This is the case also in China.
The ACEA office was established in 2005 and has been in charge of the technical dialogue with Chinese authorities both for passenger as well as commercial vehicles. We need to meet as an industry to discuss the roles of the ACEA office and the European Chamber Automotive Working Group. This need is even more pertinent in view of rumoured changes to the Chinese automotive industry policy.
Position Paper
The Position Paper is the European Chamber’s key lobbying document and is widely recognised by the Chinese and European governments, EU institutions, business associations and the media as the authoritative voice of EU business in China. It is used extensively for policy considerations, bilateral discussions, cooperation projects and background information. The value and importance of a well-written and well-represented Automotive Position Paper cannot be overstated. Working Group members are encouraged to review last year’s Automotive Position Paper and identify internally the key issues to be included in the upcoming 2014-2015 edition. The recommendations of the Automotive Working Group for 2014-2015 will be more important than in a very long time and members are encouraged to come to the Working Group meeting with concerns and recommendations. Please find attached last year’s Automotive Position Paper.
We strongly encourage as many OEMs as possible to attend to this meeting. If you would like to participate in this Working Group meeting, please register with Ms. Jane Wang at jwang@europeanchamber.com.cn by Thursday, 12 March COB.
