The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is delighted to invite you to the presentation of Jonathan Fenby’s book WILL CHINA DOMINATE THE 21st CENTURY, together with the moderator Jamil Anderlini, Financial Times Bejing Bureau Chief, from 15:30 to 17:00 pm on Thursday, 15th May, 2014 at Kempinski Hotel.
"Fenby's concise, yet comprehensive, essay should be the first thing read by anyone with an interest - business, political, or intellectual - in the future of China."
-- Charles Horner, Senior Fellow, Hudson Institute
"An excellent, current guide to the challenges and dangers ahead for modern China. It describes, with verve and insight, why the 'China Dream' may lead to a chilly awakening. Fenby, a delightful writer, explains why China will not dominate the 21st century, with compelling critiques and a sharp, clear summary of its economic and political challenges."
-- Robert B. Zoellick, Former President of the World Bank Group, U.S. Trade Representative, and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State
"A smart, wise, well written essay which answers with much common sense and learning one of the biggest questions of our time."
-- Chris Patten, Chancellor of the University of Oxford, and the last Governor of Hong Kong
About the book
In Will China Dominate the 21st Century, Jonathan Fenby – an eminent China expert researching on China’s politics, policy interpretation and broader political economy for decades – provides a well-grounded prediction of China’s global influence in the 21st century. By reviewing China’s past achievements and revealing the major political, economic, social and international challenges cropped up in China’s road to obtain global domination, Fenby argues that China will not be able to dominate the world in the 21st century as proposed by many.
Fenby acknowledges the remarkable achievements of China by adopting the reform and opening-up to the outside world policy and the ever increasingly significant role China plays on the global stage. However, he also reminds readers of a great many problems existing in China including the “man-made” economic statics, deficiencies of the political system and bubbles in the present prosperity in his well-balanced book. As a result, he concludes that the global stage will be dominated by multiple powers instead of China alone.
This profound and well-researched book, written by one of the most renowned authorities on China, is a necessary read for anyone interested in the various aspects of emerging China and its role on the global stage in the 21st century.
please note that the book will be available to sell at Price RMB130 onsite of the event. European Chamber member enjoys 10% discount.
