The European Chamber Beijing Chapter is pleased to invite you to a seminar on Trade Unions in international companies: An Update on current developments.
The global economic crisis of 2008 revealed that the Chinese accumulation model with its high export surpluses and massive state investment in infrastructure has reached its limit. Official guidelines such as the 12th Five-year-program make it clear that the leadership has strong intentions to foster economic growth by boosting the domestic market, e.g. by raising low wages.
Recently, there have been several collective labor disputes and mass labor disturbances taking place around China, posing great challenges to the industrial relations and the human resource management of companies. In addition, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) has been actively promoting the establishment of trade unions in enterprises. Many enterprises have been approached by development zones and trade unions at higher levels, requiring them to set up their own unions.
This seminar will provide insights into the latest development and characteristics of Chinese trade unions and its impact on international companies. Dr. Zhang Li, elected Chairman of the trade union at Siemens Ltd., China will share his practical experience regarding his work in the trade union at Siemens, including:
- The development of the Siemens trade union
- Practical issues and current challenges
- Do's & Dont's regarding how to deal with trade unions in international companies
