How are you doing today? Do you have kids? What world do you want them to live in? Do you like jogging or cycling? Do you like to eat fish? Vegetables? How is your health? Allergies? Asthma? If you care about your children, your grandchildren and your health, time has come to realize environmental problems are reaching dramatic levels.
Global Warming and Climate Change have become all too familiar words in the media. China acknowledges the impact, in Tibet and other regions and contrary to Western criticism it is taking action. Polar ice caps are melting. Crops face changing climate patterns. The fish in the ocean has increasing levels of toxic contaminants, such as mercury, and so are other foods. Coastal areas are under threat.
Still some try to ignore. Today consumers got used to the buy cheap - use little or not at all - if broken throw away - start all over again. Shop till you drop, then you are a good consumer.
China is being blamed for being the Factory of the World, producing cheap and inferior products, ignoring the rights of the workers. But what about the buyers? Even companies like IKEA show a poor track record, as shown in some examples. Western criticism often smacks of hypocrisy.
The Chinese industry is facing new challenges with exports under pressure, the relocation of manufacturing to other countries or reshoring: what are the reasons and what is China supposed to do, and what should we do?
The dilemma for China: how to change from the one-dollar T-shirt industry to value-added products with more added China IP. Ultimately, without a change of mentality in the West, China and other developing countries such as Bangladesh face an uphill battle.
The concept of quality: how can we define it? Why should we strive to achieve quality and how? Quality & Durability: The solution “they” don’t want you to hear and think about: “Too simple, unworkable, unrealistic, utopian.” Do you have a better solution?
Gilbert will give insights on the environmental issues, with a strong focus on China but will also indicate something can be done. By us.
