The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is delighted to invite you to the launch of the European Business in China Position Paper 2014/2015.
The Position Paper is the European Chamber’s most important annual publication. It compiles the latest assessments and concerns of European businesses operating in China with the aim to offer constructive recommendations to China’s policy-makers. These recommendations are offered in the spirit of mutual benefit to improve China’s business environment for both foreign and domestic companies, in order to promote China’s sustainable economic growth and further boost China’s development. The Position Paper 2014/2015 is written bottom-up by the European Chamber’s 1,800 member companies through its working groups and forums.
The information in the Position Paper 2014/2015 is based on input and analysis gathered over a year-long period from July 2013 to July 2014. This is the 14th edition of the European Business in China Position Paper.

Jörg Wuttke is Vice President and Chief Representative of BASF China, based in Beijing. Since joining BASF in 1997, Mr. Wuttke has been responsible for helping guide the company’s investment strategies for China, negotiation of large projects and government relations.
Previous to joining BASF, Mr. Wuttke worked with ABB for 11 years; in fact his first professional encounter with China was in 1988 as the Finance and Administration Manager of ABB Beijing. In 1990, he returned to Germany as Sales Manager of ABB Power Plants Division, responsible for gas turbine sales to Africa and Russia. In 1993, he became Chief Representative ABB China in Shanghai and in 1994 moved to the President's Office of ABB China in Beijing, where he was responsible for the development and financing of large projects.
From 2001 to 2004 Mr. Wuttke was the Chairman of the German Chamber of Commerce in China. From 2007 to 2010, 2014 to 2017, and since May 2019 again he is the President of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China
From 2011 to 2019, Mr. Wuttke was Chairman of the BIAC China Task Force of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD (BIAC), a Paris based body of major business associations that lobbies the OECD.
From 2013 to 2016, and again since 2019 Mr. Wuttke is Vice Chairman of the CPCIF International Cooperation Committee, a group representing Multinational Companies in China’s Chemical Association.
Since its establishment in 2013, Mr. Wuttke is member of the Advisory Board of Germany’s foremost Think Tank on China, Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), in Berlin.
In January 2019 Mr. Wuttke joined the International Board of the Stars Foundation, in Switzerland. stars - for Leaders of the Next Generation.

Alberto was born in Italy, obtained a BA and MSc degree in the UK and has been living in Asia for over 20 years. He is the Managing Partner of Dezan Shira & Associates, one of the largest, independent, pan-Asia Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) firms with over 300 professionals and 19 offices in China, India, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia. The firm has also associated firms in Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand under the Dezan Shira & Associates Asian Alliance brand.
Alberto is specialized in corporate structuring and management issues affecting foreign-invested enterprises in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam and sits on the board of various multinational corporations doing business in these countries.
He has consistently contributed to the firm’s subsidiary publishing company Asia Briefing Media, which produces a variety of titles related to doing business in Asia including; China Briefing, Vietnam Briefing, India Briefing and ASEAN Briefing. Alberto’s comments also regularly appear in international publications such as The Financial Times, The South China Morning Post, Il Sole 24 Ore, China Daily and a host of other local and internationally recognized publications.
Alberto is a member of YPO, a former Vice Chairman of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, the former Chairman of its South China Chapter and an International Advisor to the Guangzhou Government.

Mr. Donato Vairo is the general manager of Metasystem Electronics Co. ltd., a multinational company dealing with the design, manufacturing and sales of automotive electronic devices. He is also the director of Mimex International Ltd., a service company specialized in design and manufacturing of precision mechanical components for industrial equipment. He has more than 18 years of experience in managing manufacturing companies, including 13 years spent in China. He holds a master degree in mechanical engineering from the university of Pisa, Italy.
