The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to a Joint Energy Working Group meeting where we will receive a presentation by Mr. Fredrik Lofthagen, CEO of Interel, Tuesday, 25th November, 16:00 – 17:30pm, at the European Chamber Beijing.
Energy politics in flux: changing energy policy in the new Commission and Parliament and the impact on European Companies in China
European energy policy is changing fast. Mr. Lofthagen will examine the impact that institutional & political changes within the Commission and Parliament will have on European MNCs and their Chinese subsidiaries, specifically in the energy sector. This will encompass many aspects of energy policy, such as:
- Personalities & policies: likely energy priorities from key individuals in the Commission & Parliament
- EU 2030 energy targets, upcoming climate change negotiations and the EU’s influence on China
- Reform of the Emissions Trading System
- Development of renewables, including inward and outward investment
- Solar tariffs
- Shale gas
- Energy security
- Upcoming reform of EU air quality laws
Bio of Mr. Fredrik Lofthagen, CEO of Interel:
Fredrik is a partner and Group Chief Executive Officer of Interel.
He is widely recognised as one of the leading European affairs consultants in Brussels with more than 20 years’ experience guiding clients through the EU decision making process. Many of the campaigns conceived and managed by him have had significant impact on EU policy and legislation, ranging from corporate governance to disease awareness, environment and external relations. He was the first consultancy leader in Europe to accept the prestigious SABRE award in the category Public Affairs Consultancy of the Year (2005).
Since his appointment as CEO in 2006, Fredrik has more than doubled the size of the company through organic growth and acquisitions, expanding from its Brussels operations to become a leading independent public affairs and communications consultancy with own offices and affiliates in 43 countries around the globe. In 2011 he spearheaded the successful completion of a management buyout involving 17 members of his extended management team.
Fredrik started his career as a lawyer in Brussels before moving into European affairs by way of a three year employment with the joint EU representation of the Law Society of England & Wales and the Law Society of Scotland. He joined Interel in 1996 to create its European Affairs practice, which he built into one of the leading and most respected consultancies in Brussels.
He holds a master degree in laws (LL.M) from the University of Lund, Sweden. He speaks English and French, besides his native language, Swedish.
