Dear Working Group Member,

The European Chamber is pleased to invite you to the next joint Energy, Metals and Mining, and Petrochemicals, Chemicals and Refining Working Group meeting. It will be held on Friday, 16^th January, 2pm-4pm, at the European Chamber Shanghai and European Chamber Beijing via videoconference. 

The Chinese government recently abolished the decade-old quota system limiting exports of rare earth minerals, which was at the centre of a World Trade Organisation dispute in 2013. What led to the change in policy and what would be the potential impact on China’s rare earth sector and downstream manufacturers?  

Mr. Thomas Kruemmer, General Manager, Kloeckner Metals, will present an overview of China’s rare earth sector and provide details of his recent meeting with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which dicussed the development of the country’s rare earth industry. He also is the European Chamber's Metals and Mining Working Group Chair.

Following his presentation, Mr. Michael Zhu, Country Manager, Solvay Greater China, and Executive Vice-Chairman, Shanghai Rare Earth Association, will share with us his hands-on experience in the rare earth business and provide an in-depth insight into the market changes. He also is the European Chamber's PCR Working Group Chair.
