The EUCCC is pleased to invite you to next Thursday?? IT&T Working Group meeting to be held at the Nokia Office.
Representatives from the EU-China WTO II Cooperation Programme will join us to give an overview of a project proposal they??e received from the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) in relation to the expansion of trade in IT products. More specifically, MII is carrying out research on the classification of IT products in China and other IT exporting countries in preparation for the new round of ITA II negotiations. The proposal identifies a number of research topics, including:
* China?? tariff code classification of newly-introduced IT products
* A case study and recommendations to WTO members on simple recognition of IT products through a unified standard
* An impact study of the expansion of ITA products in China?? IT industry
* The formulation of an ITA II negotiating position
Our colleagues from WTO II will be seeking the members??feedback during the meeting with a view toward possibly involving the Working Group in the project?? activities.
Of note, Chairman Jari Vaario will travel to The Hague and represent the IT&T Working Group at the upcoming EU-China Business Summit on 9 December (For more details please refer to www.eu-chinasummit.nl). The EUCCC is playing a key role in co-sponsoring the high-level event, and the afternoon session will feature a panel on Industrial Cooperation to be chaired by EUCCC President Serge Janssens. With input from the Science & Technology Section of the EU Delegation, discussion at next week?? meeting will also likely focus on ways for the Working Group to support this EU-China dialogue, especially in the fields of innovation, IPR, standardisation, certification and technical regulation.
