Within just two years of taking power, China's leaders have laid bold groundwork for reforms, but implementation is crucial and many difficult steps lie ahead. With its annual European Business in China Position Paper (Position Paper) the European Chamber offers Chinese policy-makers over 800 recommendations that draw directly from the knowledge and expertise of the European Chamber's 1,800 member companies. The recommendations were formulated over a six-month consultative process by 37 separate working groups, covering 28 vertical industry sectors and nine horizontal cross-industry sectors.
In addition, the European Chamber has for the first time published the Shanghai Position Paper as a standalone publication. It was launched in January 2015. This Paper compiles the latest assessments and concerns of European businesses operating in Shanghai with the aim to offer constructive recommendations to Shanghai's policy-makers. These recommendations are offered in the spirit of mutual benefit to improve Shanghai's business environment for both foreign and domestic companies, in order to promote Shanghai's sustainable economic growth and further boost its development into a truly international metropolis.
Frederik Cornu, Member of the Board, European Union Chamber of Commerce in China Shanghai and Member of the Board, French Chamber of Commerce & Industry in China, will first provide the overall results from the Position Paper, and then focus on Shanghai.
Insights include:
•Recommendations on how Shanghai can reach its 2020 goals;
