Over the past few decades China has risen rapidly to cement its place as a major player on the world stage. Unprecedented economic growth coupled with growing influence and interests around the world means that China remains high on the agenda for foreign business, investors, governments and of course the international media. Global audiences are hungry to learn more about China and the foreign media has an important role in telling the China story to the world.
However, being a foreign journalist in China does not come without its obstacles and challenges which include, but are not limited to, the role of the government, culture, language and bandwidth to cover all the stories that matter. These challenges are further added to by the significant differences in how the Chinese media traditionally operates in comparison to their foreign counterparts.
To tackle the important topic of the role of foreign media in China, the European Chamber is hosting an afternoon seminar with four seasoned journalists from international media outlets. The panelists will touch on a range of issues including how they operate in China, how they interact with their sources, what makes an attractive story to their readers, challenges they face and their thoughts on the future for foreign media in China. It will be an interactive session with opportunities to ask questions directly to the panelists and share your own experiences.
