The year of 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. With the theme of "Co-constructing the ILSTC, Co-creating New Hubs of Openness, and Co-shar- ing New Opportunities for Cooperation", and centering on "New Rules, New Channels and New Trends", the Fair explores the new features, challenges and opportunities of current global investment and trade, vigorously promoting the all-round cooperation between western regions represented by Chengdu and EU countries in the field of investment and trade.

The annual China Inbound-Outbound Forum was established in 2014 amidst rapid growth of the “go global” movement of Chinese enterprises. For five consecutive years, the annual conference has been hailed as one of the most popular and influential forums in China. One of the biggest challenges facing European companies in China is the perpetuation of China’s ‘economic caste system’, which distinguishes companies by ownership, and favours state-owned over private and local over foreign. This biased economic structure pits finance-starved private companies against the unnaturally enhanced, inefficient SOEs that are at the core of China’s structural problems. The continuation of this system is doing little to inspire the European business communities’ long-term confidence in China’s economy.
