The semiconductor industry has become front and center in the economic strategies of nationals and global political rivalries. The technology is the source of global innovation and underpins competitiveness in the high technology industry. China, the US, Europe and other major Asia nations are all putting forth major policies to build up their domestic supply chains and capture the benefits of semiconductor leadership. But with a complicated and hard to change supply chain; with “national self-reliance” in semiconductors being technically impossible; every region and every country faces hard choices about how to support their domestic industry while also collaborating with global partners, allies and competitors.
