On November 6th, the European Union Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Mr. Vytenis Andriukaitis, has participated in the China International Food Safety and Quality Conference held in Shanghai, where he gave an opening speech on EU-China enhanced cooperation in the food safety field. For both the European Union and China, food safety and cooperation in this area is a preoccupation of critical importance, as safety, traceability, regulatory and fraud issues in the food industry have the potential to hamper trade between the two partners.

E-commerce is playing an increasingly significant role in both domestic and cross-border trade, with China – accounting for 42% of the global e-commerce market – on the forefront of this trend.
