On 23rd February, the European Commission published a proposal for a Directive on Sustainable Corporate Governance. The European Chamber has invited Ms Orsolya Csorba, Counsellor for Competition, Justice and Consumer Policy at the Delegation of the European Union to China to provide a debriefing on the Commission’s proposal. On June 1st, 2020, the Chinese Central Committee and the State Council jointly released the Overall Plan for the Construction of Hainan Free Trade Port (“the Masterplan”), a large-scale plan to transform the entire island province into a free trade port (FTP) – making it the largest special free trade zone in China. The Masterplan laid out a series of special policies for Hainan – liberalization of trade of goods and services, facilitation of investment, opening-up of key sectors, and free exchange of people, capital, and data. Coupled with preferential policies of the Hainan Bo’ao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, Hainan is expected to be the rising hub of new investment and business opportunities.
