On 15th March, the National People’s Congress of China has approved the Foreign Investment Law, which will become effective on 1st January 2019. This Law will change the legal framework for foreign investment in China. To better understand its impacts on the foreign business, we are delighted to invite Ms. Nancy Zhang, Partner of Junhe Law Firm to share with us her insights on this matter.Ms. Zhang has insights in critical areas relating to mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructuring transactions in China and has helped clients design creative transaction structures to maximize their interests. During this meeting, we will have a discussion about the recent campaign to enforce environmental law from the MEP and local environmental protection agencies.

In the past three months some members of the European Chamber have found increased difficulties to operate their business, mainly as a consequence of environmental regulation strictly enforced by the MEP and local environmental protection agencies. In some cases, companies have been requested to stop their production immediately. According to the information received by the European Chamber, the involved areas mainly include Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, Shandong Province, Guangdong Province, Shanghai and Tianjin.
