Shanghai is making its step towards a more sustainable developing mode. With the new policy of mandatory garbage sorting starting from 1st July 2019, garbage collection and disposal, which helps control environmental pollution and reduce resource consumption, becomes an important topic for all parties. How should companies start garbage sorting? What is a good system to promote recycling and waste reduction? What should companies do to integrate environmental protection into their operation and production?
The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is deligthted to welcome you to this Zero Waste Campaign session, in the afternoon of 3rd June, will provide a platform for you to learn successful experience abroad and explore feasible solutions domestically.
Mr Liang Sun will share the waste reduction experience of Belgium, who is a pioneer of waste management in Europe. European countries started garbage reduction campaign many years ago but they met lots of problems at the beginning. Over these years, their transformation proves that it is possible to move away from landfilling and incineration to reuse and recycling. With a long-term effort to reduce waste generation and increase recycling rates, the Belgians have managed to send for disposal in landfills and incinerators only 197kg per person. A case study of Belgium will shed light on waste reduction solutions for China-based companies.
Ms Joyce Qiu will make a speech on Global Recycled Standard (GRS) Certification. More and more companies choose recyclable materials, reuse waste, and introduce sustainable ideas to their customers. In this trend, a standard for recycled materials and a certification for qualified products are needed. GRS is an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions. Intertek is dedicated to providing the GRS certification in China. A sharing by Intertek will help audiences understand GRS certification and its development in China.
