The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and EuroCham Myanmar are pleased to welcome you to an event about business opportunities in Myanmar. This event will be of special interest for China-based companies which are exploring new markets.
According to the World Bank, Myanmar’s economic outlook is positive with growth projected to further accelerate to 6.7 percent by 2020 /2021. This growth will be supported by recent reform actions, including: officializing the use of Chinese yuan and Japanese yuan for trade settlements; inviting five foreign life insurance companies to apply for licenses in Myanmar; opening the financial sector, allowing commercial banks to lend at 16 percent interest without collateral and allowing foreign banks to operate; and introducing electronic budget submissions.
Myanmar is commonly referred to as one of the last frontier markets. Its geographic position makes it a strategic partner for both China and India for companies looking at expanding operations for a wider consumer base in the region.
During this event you will learn about Myanmar's investment regime, including:
- Applicable tax rates;
- Minimum investment sums;
- Sector-specific investment requirements; and
- Common market entry arrangements.
Speakers will also give you an overview of Myanmar's legal landscape, with an emphasis on recent reforms such as:
- Foreign exchange management controls;
- Intellectual property rights protection; and
- Competition law and anti-trust regulations.
