The ongoing trade battle between China and the U.S. did not start with Trump, and it will not end with him, argue Bob Davis and Lingling Wei of the Wall Street Journal. The conflict reached a turning point in January 2020 with the signing of the phase one trade deal, but not before heavily impacting the global economy through trade restrictions and tit-for-tat tariff wars.
In early June, China reportedly told state-owned enterprises to stop large-scale U.S. soybean and pork purchases. This move followed the announcement that Washington will potentially take steps to revoke Hong Kong’s special status in light of China’s proposed national security law.
How did we get to this tipping point? How much are U.S. presidents and Chinese leaders to blame? Where are we headed and how can business prepare for what’s next?
The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is pleased to host Bob Davis and Lingling Wei, two award-winning Wall Street Journal journalists and authors of the book Superpower Showdown: How the Battle Between Trump and Xi Threatens a New Cold War. During this webinar hosted by Former US Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky, Bob and Lingling will take participants behind the scenes of the trade negotiations and help them understand the context and future of the trade conflict.
