Dear Working Group Members,
As part of its Substances of Very High Concern Roadmap to 2020, the European Chemicals Agency introduced Regulatory Management Option Analysis (RMOA), a voluntary system to help authorities clarify on a case-by-case basis whether regulatory action is necessary for a given substance and to identify the most appropriate measures to address a concern. This approach allows for prioritisation of chemicals in a science-based and proportionate manner, avoiding stigmatisation of certain elements by providing appropriate risk management measures that take into account both hazards and exposure.
During this meeting, Mr Kai-Sebastian Melzer, Senior Regulatory Affairs Manager at Nickel Institute, will introduce the overall structure of RMOAs and reflect on some weaknesses and possible further improvements. Mr David Chen, China Public Policy Manager at Nickel Institute, will discuss how RMOA can fit into China’s regulatory framework of chemicals management.
