In 2016, Chinese investments into the EU leaped 77% y-o-y to more than 35 billion EUR. As China continues to grow, develop, and integrate into the global economy, its overseas investments expand in quantity and quality, reflecting growing sophistication of the Chinese economy and broader Chinese commercial and policy goals. Brand new realities for the EU-China trade relations are therefore being shaped up.

How is this new scenario is going to impact our economies? What are the motives and tools used for Chinese investments in Europe? These and other questions will be discussed at the next WG meeting on 22 March, h 9:30 with Mr Bo Cheng, Partner at Zhong Lun. Bo will provide a seminar about “Chinese outbound direct investment (ODI) from a regulatory point of view”.

Dear Working Group Members,

On 2 June 2017, in the context of the EU-China Summit in Brussels, Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete and Mr Nur Bekri, Administrator of the National Energy Administration signed the 2017-2018 Work Plan to implement the EU-China Roadmap on Energy Cooperation, having the objective of sharing best practices with regard to energy regulation, demand and supply analysis, energy crisis, grid design and the integration of renewable energy into the electricity grid. In this context, 2018 will also see the start of the EU–China energy cooperation platform (ECECP), an EU funded project aimed at strengthening the EU–China business cooperation in the energy sector.

How do these mechanisms of cooperation set up in the context of the EU-China Energy Dialogue function? What role can companies play? These and other issues will be discussed at the next WG meeting on 14 March 2018, h 9:30 – 11:30, with Mr Ignacio Asenjo, Second Secretary at the Delegation of the EU in China.
