On 20th July 2017, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) published the ‘New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan’. The plan outlines China’s ambition to become a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) by 2030, with a domestic AI industry worth in excess of $ 150 billion.
At the European Chamber’s second edition of our annual Artificial Intelligence Conference on Tuesday 27th November 2018, an array of speakers from academia and industry will discuss current trends in the application of AI in autonomous driving and flying, facial recognition and virtual private assistants, as well as recent breakthroughs in research related to AI and machine learning.

Mr. Wei Fan
Mr. Wei Fan
Mr. Wei Fan is the Machine learning director of AI Laboratory, Lenovo Research. He is responsible for research and development of advanced machine learning and data analysis techniques to empower Lenovo products and services, which covers product system optimization, predictive supply chain planning, smart manufacturing, and market intelligence. Before joining Lenovo, Mr. Fan worked for Ricoh (2007-2008) and Fujitsu (2008-2017). He developed numerous technologies including the industry’s most accurate handwritten Chinese character recognition system using AI that mimics the human brain. He has extensive R&D experience in computer vision, pattern recognition and machine learning, with over 40 research papers and over 30 issued patents. He is a committee member of China Society of Image and Graphics, as well as a member of Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance.
Mr. Fan received his BS from University of Science and Technology of China, his MS from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Xuening Wu

Dr Xuening Wu is the Chief Data Scientist of SAP Innovation Center Innovation Valley, aa guest lecturer at Fudan University for its postgraduate course “Data-driven AI”, a member of Yicai’s ‘Data Science 50’, an openSAP lecturer, as well as a lecturer of the Key Teacher Training Course of the Higher Education Commission of the Ministry of Education, and Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of the University of International Business and Economics. He is dedicated to the research and application of artificial intelligence algorithms, and has extensive experience in the use of big data for product and business model innovation in many industries such as retail, finance, manufacturing, medical, and smart cities. Dr Wu is also the author of the book ‘SAP Enterprise Machine Learning’, published by Tsinghua University Press.
Ms. Cherry Rongshu Cheng

Ms. Cherry Cheng Rongshu is currently the R&D Tribe leader for Nokia Mobile Networks. Rongshu has over 18 years’ professional experiences in software development, wireless, core and mobile industry. She worked for Nokia since 2003 as one of the first batch of employees in Hangzhou site. She has been holding various leadership positions including Head of R&D, Site Manager of Hangzhou R&D Center, etc.
Mr. Andreas Jerhammar
Mr. Andreas Jerhammar
Andreas Jerhammar got a background from system development in the passenger car and heavy truck industry. He has worked with various control systems in different positions for more than a decade. During the development of Scania New Truck Generation Andreas was Head of Brake Controls, introducing three market leading brake control systems on the new Scania truck. Today he is working for Scania at the strategic office in China within Autonomous Vehicles, based in Shenzhen. He holds a MSc in Applied physics and Electrical engineering.
Mr. Deming Shang
Mr. Deming Shang
Mr. Deming Shang has 25 years of experience in the communications and semiconductor industry. He has worked in numerous international companies such as Ericsson, Motorola, Nortel, Tekelec and Sequans, specializing in technology, management, marketing and business development. Mr.Deming Shang joined the ARM company in 2016 and has promoted the development of game lightmass software, computer vision object detection, local tone mapping, and ISP arm technology in the Asia Pacific region. He is now responsible for the promotion and development of the artificial intelligence technology of the ARM in the Chinese market.
Dr. Bing Li
Dr. Bing Li
Dr Bing Li is a Senior Consultant with Roland Berger, working at the Shanghai office. As part of his work Dr Li has undertaking consulting projects with a great variety of clients from European and Chinese multinationals to Chinese AI-focused unicorns with billion dollar valuations. Dr Li holds a Ph.D. in AI, Machine Learning and Social Media Mining from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Hong Kong S.A.R.

Mr. BIE has solid experience in strategic planning, business development, sales management, branding in multi-national companies. He has held senior position of sales & marketing in TIMKEN, GM, COMAU, etc. Mr. BIE is also responsible for government affairs in Comau China, He has solid knowledge on automotive, robotics, automation sectors. He has a master degree of economics and a bachelor degree of engineering.
He is also Songjiang people congress representative, Vice president of Songjiang smart manufacturing association, Expert member of Songjiang artificial intelligence industry park.
Mr. Alexander van Kemenade
Mr. Alexander van Kemenade
Alex leads the EIU’s consumer practice in Asia, helping clients make strategic decisions in some of the world’s most dynamic markets. He specializes in data-driven strategy and deploys predictive analytics across a wide range of consumer data, helping clients capture emerging growth opportunities. For example, in one recent project Alex helped a major restaurant chain redesign pricing across China, building an analytical model to capture the impact of pedestrian traffic and the urban environment on sales. Previously, Alex led the EIU's China Forecasting Service, which worked on macroeconomic forecasting for China's provinces and cities.
Alex holds an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He grew up in Beijing and speaks fluent Mandarin.
