Background
Building on the success of the 2nd European Chamber Sustainable Business Awards, the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter is pleased to announce the third edition of its 3rd Sustainable Business Awards to be held on 17 September 2019.
Application for the 2019 Sustainable Business Awards closed on 23rd June. If you missed this year's deadline, please keep an eye in next year's edition!
In partnership with SYNTAO as our knowledge partner, and the supporting parnter Consulate-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands the Awards aim to acknowledge innovation leadership achievements, raise sustainability awareness, and share the responsible business model experiences with organizations looking to embrace responsible business competition in China. The European Chamber believes that there is an urgent need for enterprises to build a sustainable business model which integrates social and environmental responsibilities into commercial activities and makes competitive responsibility a strong driver for future development which goes along with the EU 2020 targets and China’s long-term Sustainable Development Goals under China’s new leadership.
Awards Categories
• Corporate Social Shared Values – award presented to a European Chamber Shanghai Chapter member company to recognize its overall strategic planning and pioneering role in integrating CSV into their corporate values and advancing the creation of social and business shared value.
• Outstanding Environmental Performance - award presented to a European Chamber Shanghai Chapter member company to recognize its achievement in overall strategic planning and pioneering role in environment protection, as well as its contribution to facilitate Multi-Stakeholders’ roles in realizing UN Sustainability Development Goals in its China operations.
• Poverty Alleviation – award presented to a European Chamber Shanghai Chapter member company to recognize its achievement in overall strategic planning and pioneering role in poverty alleviation, as well as its contribution to facilitate Multi-Stakeholders to realize UN Sustainability Development Goals in their China operations.
• Social Innovation Leadership - award presented to a European Chamber Shanghai Chapter member company to recognize its overall strategic planning and pioneering role in innovative practices, especially breakthroughs that address societal needs and change conventional ways of doing business. This award focuses on innovative approaches from all dimensions to promote sustainable development.

How to Apply
Once you confirm your eligibility, please read the introduction for applicants and fill in the application form for the award category of your choice and send the documents to support your company's application to Ms. Tiantian Qi at sustainability@europeanchamber.com.cn before 23 June 2019, 6pm. Application period for the 2019 edition of the awards is not closed.

Evaluation
All the applications will be assessed by a jury representing a wide-variety of academy, businesses, social organizations, and think tanks. A NINE judge’s panel, consisting of experts in the sustainability field, will review and select award recipients for each category based on the criteria provided. The award winners will be announced at the 2019 European Business Awards Ceremony on 17 September 2019. Selected application materials from winners will be published online in European Chamber Shanghai Focus newsletter.

Mrs. Frances Luk
Mrs. Frances Luk
Frances Luk is the Head of Corporate Affairs Greater China overseeing brand management, corporate and marketing communications as well as sustainability and stakeholder relations. Her team has developed a structured approach to address topics on sustainability, corporate citizenship and social engagement with internal and external partners including NGOs and associations in China.
Before joining BASF, Frances worked in corporate and stakeholder communications in both the public and private sectors in the Hong Kong SAR and Mainland China. In addition to her corporate responsibilities, Frances also chairs the Communication Working Group of China Petrochemical Industry Federations MNC Committee and she is an active member in its Sustainability Working Group.
Frances has a Master of Arts degree in Film and TV Studies from Beijing Normal University.
Mr. Xiaoguang Wang

Mr. Wang Xiaoguang, Ph.D. in Management, researcher. Director of China Federation of Industrial Economics Corporate Social Responsibility Promotion Center, Secretary-General of China Industrial Corporation Corporate Social Responsibility Think-Tank, Director of Beijing Rongzhi CSR Institute, Deputy Director of China Corporate Management Research Council. He is one of the expert panels in charge of formulating CSR national standard, serves as CSR expert in China Banking Association and China Trustee Association,
Mr. Wang graduated as a Ph.D. of Corporate Management from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He participated in SASSC documents formulation, including “Guidance on State-owned Companies Fulfill CSR” and “Plan for Implementation of the 12th Harmonious Development Strategy”. He took part in 3 national standard formulation, including “Guidance on Social Responsibility” “Guidance on Social Responsibility Reporting” “Guidance on Classifying Social Responsibility Performance”.
He took lead in China Banking Association CSR Evaluation System, China Information and Communication Technology Industry CSR Guidance, China Electronic Information Association CSR Guidance.
He led and participated in more than 10 projects of UNDP, ILO, UNGC, MOST, (Ministry of Science and Technology of the People´s Republic of China), MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People´s Republic of China), CASS. He consulted central-controlled companies such as State Grid, China Southern Power Grid, and more than 10 financial institutions include Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, China Life.
Mr. Wang has also published dozens of research papers and is the author and the editor of several books and teaching materials in the CSR field.
Ms. Tiantian Qi
Ms. Tiantian Qi
Tiantian is a Senior Business Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the Sino-EU government relations industry. Skilled in Corporate Social Responsibility, International Relations, Programme Design and Policy Analysis across the food and beverage sector, auto sector as well as the satellite industry.
During her role leading the CSR Forum of the European Chamber, she organised European Chamber 10th Anniversary Conference in 2015 and coordinated with more than 30 member companies’ speakers, led (edited, designed, coordinated) and managed the CSR White Paper project which includes the liaison and coordination of more than 10 Member States Consulate Generals in Shanghai and 20 sponsor companies in 2016; Organised the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter first Sustainable Business Awards and designed seven series of CEO Talks; Organised the Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation CSR Dialogue at the European Chamber in April 2018 and the 2018 SBA in September; Established Shanghai Local Media (Shine: Shanghai Daily App) cooperation with European Chamber and launched European Chamber Sustainable Column at Shanghai Daily in 2017; Led the European Chamber CSR Team teach at Shanghai University for its MBA students on CSR together with the Swedish CSR Ambassador in summer 2017, 2018 and 2019; Led the CSR delegation join the European Commission Multi-Stakeholder Meeting in Brussels and coordinate the member speech delivered on CSR in China on February 2015 (First time in the history of the Multi-Stakeholder meeting to host delegates from China and hear China CSR practice).
Mr. Jilai Peng
Mr. Jilai Peng
Mr Peng Jilai is the General Manager and Partner of SynTao Consulting Beijing Office, Director of China CSR Map (CCM), a certified trainer for Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and lecturer of SynTao Academy.
Mr Peng has over 15 years of CSR/ESG consultancy experience and has served many clients in the automobile, FMCG, healthcare, financing, ICT and IDC industries. He is professional in developing sustainability strategy and ESG management systems, CSR internal & external communication, CSR training, CSR/ESG reporting, CSR program planning, monitoring and evaluation.
Besides business consultancy, Mr Peng is heavily involved with corporate-NGO cooperation and has successfully developed a dozen of cross-sector partnership. He is also proficient with charity project implementation and evaluation and he particularly focus on child development, gender, rural revitalization, environment & climate change, health & nutrition issue. Mr Peng provides advisory service for a dozen of large foundations and NGOs.
Before joining SynTao, Mr Peng worked for four years as Project Coordinator with GIZ on Sino-German CSR Project. Mr Peng earned his bachelor degree in English Language and Literature from Capital Normal University.
Dr. Yong Gao

Dr. Yong Gao was appointed as Vice President of Public Affairs for Bayer China, effective May 1, 2019.
Dr. Yong Gao jointed Monsanto in the United States in February 2006. During his tenure at Monsanto, he had been based in the corporate headquarters in St Louis, Missouri and at regional offices in Singapore and Beijing. He had taken different roles, including US Biotechnology Regulatory Affairs Manager, Director of Regulatory Affairs for Southeast Asia, Australia/New Zealand and Pakistan, and Director of Global Regulatory Policy and Scientific Affairs. Dr. Yong Gao held the positions of Country Head for Monsanto China and Director of Corporate Engagement for Asia and Africa hub at Monsanto from December 2015 to December 2018.
Before joining Monsanto, Dr. Yong Gao was a Senior Regulatory Scientist for six years at Dow AgroSciences based in Indianapolis, Indiana. He also had three years of experience at Novopharm Biotech Inc in Winnipeg, Manitoba of Canada, as a bench scientist on recombinant protein drug development.
For over two decades working in the private sector, Dr. Yong Gao’s area of professional experience includes product R&D, product safety assessment, global regulatory strategy and approvals, government affairs and communication.
Dr. Yong Gao holds degrees of BS and MS from Nanjing Agricultural University, Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia, and MBA from Saint Louis University
Dr. Angelina Prokofyeva

Dr. Angelina Prokofyeva graduated from the National Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev and obtained her Ph.D. in chemistry at the Georg-August University Goettingen in Germany.
After a Postdoc stay at CAT Catalytic Center at the RWTH Aachen University she entered Bayer Technology Services in 2010 as a research and project manager. Since 2016 she is working in the area of Sustainable Development at Covestro and recently moved to Shanghai as Head of Sustainability Greater China.
Mr. Wang Dong

Mr. Wang Dong is responsible for the Investment Promotion and Project Service of the logistics industry sector for the Jinshan Second industrial Park (SJSIP). Since joining SJSIP in 2013, he has been engaged successively in the industry-oriented planning, economic data statistics, and social responsibility publicity of the Park.
Mr. Wang graduated from Nanjing University and obtained his Bachelor & Master's degrees on Chemical Engineering.

Decker is leading Stora Enso’s public affairs and communications in China. With more than 20 years of experience in both public and business sectors, he has worked for several world-leading multinational companies in various industries as well as consulting agency to drive their critical communication and public affairs issues.
Dr. Guo Peiyuan
Dr. Guo Peiyuan
Dr. Guo Peiyuan co-founded SynTao in 2005 and has served as the General Manager since then. After development of over a decade, SynTao has become a leading sustainability consulting firm in China with clients covering multinational companies and Chinese local companies.
Dr.GUO holds a Ph.D. in Management and a Bachelor Degree of Environmental Engineering from Tsinghua University. He is an expert on corporate environment management, responsible investment and green economy. He is a committee member for Energy Efficiency and Emission Control Verification Committee of China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment, and a founding member for Green Finance Committee of China Society for Finance and Banking. Dr.GUO is also knowledgeable about UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and has been invited by UNDP China as a lecturer for UNDP SDGs Online Course.
Dr. Guo teaches an MBA course Business Performance and Sustainability in School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, and international student course Social Innovation and CSR in School of Social Development and Public Policy, Beijing Normal University.

Lydia J. Price is Professor of Marketing at CEIBS. From 2006-2012 she was Associate Dean and Director of the CEIBS MBA Programme. Under her leadership the programme deepened its international focus and stature as well as its China expertise, rising steadily in major business school rankings as a consequence. In 2009 she implemented a major curriculum change that strengthened the programme’s commitment to Responsible Leadership and Sustainability, including an innovative mandatory course in which students complete sustainability field projects in the China context. Several of these student projects have earned global awards and accolades from the corporate and academic communities.
Professor Price is an award winning professor of marketing with more than 20 years’ experience teaching Chinese executives and MBA students. Her current teaching and research interests lie in the area of responsible leadership and marketing strategy. Prior to joining CEIBS, Professor Price was on the faculties of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and INSEAD, France. She also has been a visiting professor at New York University, Beijing University, and Catholic University of Lisbon, Portugal. Professor Price holds a PhD in Marketing from Columbia University, an MS in Marketing Research from University of Cincinnati, and a BS in Marketing from Miami University.
Ms. Anne-Roos Wasser
Ms. Anne-Roos Wasser
Anne-Roos Wasser works in trade promotion, focusing on promoting responsible business conduct, helping Dutch SMEs and start-ups enter the Chinese market, and overseeing communication and social media. Prior to that, she worked at the Middle-East and North Africa Department as a Policy Officer for Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Ms Wasser has experience working in Morocco, Israel and the GCC-region. She is a historian by training, graduated from the Erasmus University Rotterdam with a Master's Degree in International Relations and Global History.

Dr. Lu Jian Zhong, board member of Global Reporting Initiative GRI and Deputy Director General of China CSR Think Tank, deputy chairman of Shanghai Foreign Invested Association. He performed many senior executive roles for more than 20 years in a variety of industry sectors and multinational companies, such as President General Affairs Essilor Greater China, President China of The Weir Group, and Global Partner of Brunswick Group, Executive Vice President of Singapore RGE Group (China) and Chief Representative, Chairman of RGE subsidiary Asia Symbol Paper & Pulp Ltd, Vice President of RGE Subsidiary Sateri Group Ltd., Acting President China of BHP Billiton Group. In his roles of leading China operation in the companies, he integrated corporate social responsibility and sustainability into company’s strategy and day to day operations realizing social value alongside financial value, he helped the companies achieve business growth, operational excellence, and corporate image as well as talent development. Dr. Lu acquired solid professional expertise in enterprise management, commercial operations, leading corporate strategy, business growth, market expansion, organizational and leadership development, corporate branding and strategic communications, employee engagement, and company culture advancement.
Dr Lu is a well-konwn pioneer of sustainable business strategy and well-respected industry thought leader, with profound and systematic practical expertise and theoretical methodologies.

Ms. Sarah Li currently acts as Partner of SynTao, CECP GX Member for Mainland China. Graduated from Tongji University with a major in Financial Management, she has 20+ years of experiences with well-known global corporations., She owns the extensive knowledge and expertise in the areas of business strategy, organization design, business planning, supply chain design and optimization, culture building, career coaching and etc.
Ms. Sarah Li has the enthusiasm to explore this CSR journey in partnership with all different enterprises, i.e., promoting CRO development, CSR strategy development and tailor-made CSR projects, designing and managing sustainability reports, company Pro Bono and volunteer programs, project evaluation methodology, etc. Meanwhile, she is also delegated to developing mentoring and coaching programs for NPOs.
Mr. Oliver Yang
Mr. Oliver Yang
Oliver joined the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation (SSCLF) in March 2013. He serves as Deputy Secretary-General and is in charge of strategy development, policy planning, external communication and advocacy. Oliver also leads and facilitates the collaboration between multinationals and SSCLF on CSR and sustainable development agenda. Before he had served as CSR and Government Relations Manager of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai for more than 7 years.
Mr. Yang works closely with the central and local government, Chinese think-tanks, NGOs and companies to smooth communication channels and cement the relations between government authorities and business community through strategic and institutional approach.
