According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), China's clean energy sector was the largest driver of the country's economic growth in 2023, accounting for 40% of the expansion of its GDP. Solar power, along with electric vehicles and batteries (the “new three”), dominated China’s clean-energy investments in 2023. This is the outcome of a major pivot in China’s macroeconomic strategy – investment flowed from real estate into manufacturing, primarily in cleantech.
