On the morning of 26th November 2019, European Chamber President Jörg Wuttke brought a delegation of European Chamber Advisory Council and Food for Special Medical Purposes Advisory Committee members to meet with Mr. Wang Shouwen, vice minister of Commerce and deputy China International Trade Representative. Representatives from MOFCOM’s Foreign Investment Administration, Treaty and Law and European Affairs departments attended the meeting as well.

On 26th November, Ms Huaning Zhang, Vice Chair of the IPR Working Group of European Chamber, spoke at the International Symposium on Judicial Protection of Intellectual Property Rights in the New Era. Ms Zhang introduced the European Chamber of Commerce and the IPR working Group, and presented several key recommendations in the IPR Working Group Position Paper 2019/2020, highlighting patent and trademark protection.

On 25th November, European Chamber President Jörg Wuttke led a delegation of the Chamber’s Advisory Council members on a visit to the Development Research Centre of the State Council (DRC), for an exclusive meeting with Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President (Minister) Ma Jiantang. Director generals from the DRC’s International Cooperation section, Research Department of Foreign Economic Relations, and research institutes of Market Economy, Enterprise Research and Finance were also in attendance.

Upon careful study of the draft, the European Chamber Agriculture, Food and Beverage Working Group has collated all member inputs and submitted them to the SAMR for their consideration.

The High-level International Conference on Doing Business Practice and Reforms was held in the National Convention Centre in Beijing on 22nd and 23rd November. The conference was co-hosted by the Ministry of Finance, the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality and the World Bank. Under the theme ‘Improving the Business Environment for A More Dynamic Economy of China and The World’, the conference aimed to build a platform for exchanging experiences and jointly promoting business environment reform.
Vice presidents (VP) of the European Chamber, Mr Jens Eskelund and Mr Massimo Bagnasco, as well as representatives of 10 member companies also attended the conference. VP Eskelund delivered a speech at both the Friday afternoon session and the Saturday morning forum on 23rd November.
