Visit to the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange Centre
On 15 September, 25 Members of the European Chamber across 4 Working Groups (Energy, Carbon Market, Environement and Petrochemcials,Chemicals and Refining) visited the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange Centre to discuss the National Carbon Emission Trading System, carbon finance and China's pathway to decarbonisation.

This European Heating Industry desk meeting focused on Europe China Heating Initiative's latest working progress, work plan for September and October, Shanghai Green Building Standards and China's adoption of CCC certification system for commercial gas-burning appliance. During the meeting, members shared their interpretation of the regulations and discussed plans to overcome the difficulties in adopting the CCC certification system.

In order to better serve and support the development of Shanghai new energy industry and continuously attract foreign investment, this ESG seminar "New Energy and Carbon Neutrality" promotion conference was jointly organised by Shanghai Foreign Investment Development Board and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, and PwC. During the conference, the new energy industry development in Shanghai and the foreign investment environment and policies in Shanghai were introduced to key foreign enterprises to increase awareness on ESG investment incentives.

Governments around the world and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) have already joined the mission in reducing emissions from shipping. All carriers are now installing equipment to ensure sustainability and remain heavily engaged. Shipbuilders are looking at vessel conversion and replacement, as well as newbuilt orders. Shipping has a lower carbon emission than air cargo, so the concern is mainly on fuel transition.
