Meeting with Tianjin Business Environment Office on EHS Challenges in the Manufacturing Industry
The European Chamber Tianjin Chapter sent a lobby letter on 21 August 2023 to raise the EHS challenges facing by manufacturing industry members. On 24 August, Tianjin Business Environment Office, together with Foreign Investment Management Dept. of Tianjin Commerce Bureau, paid a visit to the Tianjin Chapter with the lead of Zhang Jun, Deputy Director General of Tianjin Business Environment Office. Catherine Guo, General Manager of Tianjin Chapter, along with EHS managers of Schlote and Weilburger, talked about the recent intense environment inspections challenges and Tianjin new chemical regulation updates.

On August 16th, Mr. Jiyang DUAN, Vice Mayor of Shenyang Municipal People’s Government invited Mr. Erich Kaiserseder, Chair of European Chamber Shenyang Chapter (hereinafter referred to as Shenyang Chapter), Ms. Diane Chen, board member of Shenyang Chapter and Mr. Emmanuel Loriot, Consul General of Consulate General of the Republic of France in Shenyang, Mr. Hendrik Barkeling and Mr. Michal Bartkowski, Consul General and Consul respectively of Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Shenyang as well as representatives from member companies for a follow-up meeting on the one held on 3rd of July when Mayor Lyu and other government officials attended for exchanges of ideas in terms of making the city a more attractive place to the rest of world.

On 8th August, Klaus Zenkel, vice president (VP) of the European Chamber and chair of the South China Chapter, led a delegation to meet with the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) Guangzhou office. The delegation included Ms Janet Zhang, chair of the South China Finance and Taxation Working Group, and Ms Zhou Fang, chair of the South China Human Resources Working Group. The delegation met with Mr Xie Ying, deputy commissioner of MOFCOM Guangzhou.

On 3 August 2023, the European Chamber Tianjin Chapter was invited to an Inter-Chamber meeting organized by Tianjin Commerce Bureau, jointly with AmCham Tianjin Office, Hongkong Chamber, Japanese Chamber, Korean Chamber. European Chamber Tianjin Chapter Board Mr. Massimo Dinelli join the meeting on European Chamber behalf.
Mr. Massimo Dinelli introduced the findings of the Chamber Business Confidence Survey 2023, emphasized the downturn in profitability as data showed. He also pointed out the difficulties for FIEs to recruit both Chinese talents and international talents in Tianjin. The Individual Income Tax policy for expat is regarded as a big challenge for FIEs in China to attract international talents. Mr. Massimo Dinelli also called for regular exchange mechanism with foreign business community.
European Chamber South China Chapter addressed key issues at the European Business Symposium
On 2nd August, the European Chamber South China Board Chair Mr Klaus Zenkel and board member Mr Aaron Finley, were invited to attend and spoke at the European Business Symposium hosted by the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province. The symposium, presided over by Mr Zhang Jinsong, Director General of the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, gathered representatives from diverse foreign chambers of commerce and foreign enterprises.
