On 10th June, the Environment working group of the European Chamber and the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center (FECO) of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) co-organised an online seminar on green and low-carbon transition and technology exchange. Insight Sharing: EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and China’s Footstep

On 16th February, the European Chamber Finance and Taxation Working Group held a working group meeting to share insight on the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and China’s footstep in the carbon-related tax policies.

Paolo Caridi, Policy Coordinator of DG CLIMA of the European Commission, introduced the EU’s CBAM, and Cong Zhang, Partner of Ernst & Young, provided the perspective from China side taking stock of the current tax policies in the country and sharing insight on the relevant framework discussions.

Green Transition in Industry and Transport: Sharing Swedish Experiences

On December 17th, the Swedish Consulate hosted the "Green Transition in Industry and Transport: Sharing Swedish Experiences" event and the opportunities within China on the transition to renewable energy. Two European Chamber Energy Working Group vice chairs participated as moderator and panellist respectively, providing European business perspectives on decarbonising the industrial sector and securing fossil free transport.The event brought together a number of experts in green transport and industry, for a series of presentations followed by a panel discussion.

Meeting with DG Grow on Magnesium Shortages (PCR WG)

In light of recent concerns from Brussels on magnesium shortages (as a crucial component for various critical industries including automatic and aerospace, this online meeting between the Delegation of the European Union to China (DG Grow) and European Chamber PCR Chairs and industry players aimed to facilitate discussion on causes and effects of the magnesium shortages, in the hopes of anticipating future bottlenecks on critical raw materials. Issues including the power shortages and China's decarbonisation strategy were discussed.

Meeting with Jinan Foreign Affairs Delegation (Energy WG Vice Chair)

The Shanghai chapter welcomed a visit from Tian Yin, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Jinan and the rest of the Jinan delegation (庞龙, Deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Jinan, 董晓丽 Director of Europe Africa division) on the 4th November to discuss the general situation of Jinan and potential areas of collaboration with European coompanies as well as the Shandong Initiative. This built on the recent Jinan visit from the European Chamber delegation, led by Vice President, Guido Giacconi. The vice chair of the Energy Working Group, Juan Ignacio Garcia de Motiloa was present to represent the chamber and the advocacy work of the working group.
