The European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China are delighted to invite you to the launch of the 12th edition of the European Business in China – Business Confidence Survey 2016 at 8:00 on Tuesday, 14th June, 2016 in Hong Kong.
The Business Confidence Survey 2016 brings together the input of over 500 senior representatives of the European Chamber’s member companies to provide an annual overview of their performance and outlook from within the Chinese market. The European Chamber’s South China Board Chair, Mr. Alberto Vettoretti, will lead the launch event to members and present the key findings of the Business Confidence Survey 2016 in addition to answering any questions that you may have.
The BCS 2016 reports the views of European Chamber member companies on China’s business and regulatory environment, including the following.
· How they are managing the deceleration of economic growth in China and how they view the upcoming two years, a period that many expect to be increasingly challenging. This includes data on plans for cutting cost through 2016, through such measures as headcount reduction.
· Their views of China’s industrial overcapacity problem.
· The leading challenges and regulatory barriers that they report facing in China.
· Their evaluation of the implementation, to date, of the reform programme outlined in the Third Plenum's Decision.
· Their views on the importance and likely effect of the 13th Five-Year Plan, the EU-China Comprehensive Agreement on Investment negotiations and the need for a new landmark development.
· The state of their R&D operations in China and problems created by issues such as limitations on internet access.

Speakers
Mr. Alberto Vettoretti
Alberto was born in Italy, obtained a BA and MSc degree in the UK and has been living in Asia for over 20 years. He is the Managing Partner of Dezan Shira & Associates, one of the largest, independent, pan-Asia Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) firms with over 300 professionals and 19 offices in China, India, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia. The firm has also associated firms in Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand under the Dezan Shira & Associates Asian Alliance brand.
Alberto is specialized in corporate structuring and management issues affecting foreign-invested enterprises in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam and sits on the board of various multinational corporations doing business in these countries.
He has consistently contributed to the firm’s subsidiary publishing company Asia Briefing Media, which produces a variety of titles related to doing business in Asia including; China Briefing, Vietnam Briefing, India Briefing and ASEAN Briefing. Alberto’s comments also regularly appear in international publications such as The Financial Times, The South China Morning Post, Il Sole 24 Ore, China Daily and a host of other local and internationally recognized publications.
Alberto is a member of YPO, a former Vice Chairman of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, the former Chairman of its South China Chapter and an International Advisor to the Guangzhou Government.
Mr. Alain Le Couédic
Alain Le Couédic is a Partner at Roland Berger Greater China. He leads Roland Berger's Greater China Financial Services practice, and co-leads its Asia FS practice.
Alain has over 23 years of professional consulting experience, and has been based in Hong Kong for the past 20 years. During this time, Alain has helped clients solve issues related to strategy, organization, operations, merger & acquisitions, and private equity investments. His track record includes successful assignments for both multinational and local clients in the retail banking, corporate & investment banking, private banking & wealth management, asset management, insurance and securities industries.
He is also an expert on organization topics: organization design, organization effectiveness and efficiency. Prior to joining Roland Berger, Alain was a Partner and Managing Director of another leading international consulting firm in their Financial Institutions Practice, and also led that firm’s organization practice in Greater China.
Previously, Alain worked as a consultant at a global consulting firm in its New York and Hong Kong offices. Alain holds an MBA from Columbia Business School (New York) and an MS (Ingénieur degree) from AgroParisTech (Paris)."
Mr. David Collins
David Collins is the Consulting Director at China Manufacturing Consultants. David has more than 30 years of manufacturing experience in the automobile, electronics, aerospace, furniture, and chemical industries. David has held increasingly responsible positions with international assignments for General Motors, Chrysler, as well as Foxconn (in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Germany, and China). Before devoting his time to consulting, David returned Foxconn’s Mexico factory to profitability, improved morale greatly and achieved best quality in the division. Other notable assignments included managing a $4.1 billion car plant, building and launching 3 manufacturing facilities in different countries, and applying the world’s first waterborne paint process in a car plant.
Mr. Daniël de Blocq van Scheltinga
Daniël de Blocq van Scheltinga is the Founder and Managing Partner at Polarwide. He has 24 years of experience in corporate finance, restructuring, and corporate banking, both in Europe and in Asia. He began his career as a lawyer before moving into finance where he held various positions in Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank, Kredietbank and ABN AMRO. Daniël was the Head of Chemical Sector Advisory in Asia Pacific from 2001 to 2006 and Head of Asset Based Finance in Asia between 2006 and 2008 at ABN AMRO.
In 2008, Daniël founded Polarwide and is currently responsible for client coverage and overall management of the business. He is also the first CBRC-approved foreign national to be appointed a senior manager in a state owned enterprise in China. In 2008, he became the founding CEO of ChemChina Finance Co. Ltd through an agreement between ChemChina and Polarwide, with responsibility for leading ChemChina to centralise capital management of more than 460 subsidiaries, as well as the global acquisition strategy for the group.
Daniël has a Master of Law degree from Leiden University, the Netherlands (Dutch Law and International Law).
Mr. Mark Kemper
Mark is KPMG’s Global head of Leisure & Logistics and is a Steering Committee member of KPMG’s Global Real Estate Practice. As a sector partner he is KPMG’s spoke person for the sector and represents KPMG at functions and events.
He is and previously was the lead partner on a number of listed and non listed organisations in Hong Kong and Europe and act’s as KPMG’s liaison partner to other KPMG member firms for their European clients in China. Mark is based in Hong Kong.
Mark holds degrees in economics and accounting, Is a certified public accountant and has been with KPMG for 15 years.
