The "Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents," also known as the Apostille Convention, became effective in China on November 7, 2023. This widely applicable convention, with the highest number of contracting members under the Hague Conference on Private International Law, aims to streamline the cross-border circulation of public documents. This change significantly reduces both the time and economic costs associated with document processing for both Chinese and foreign citizens and businesses, thereby facilitating international trade and personal exchanges.
The European Chamber will host a joint Working Group meeting to facilitate the sharing and discussion of this policy among its members. We are honoured to welcome Ms Daisy Yang, Senior Associate at D’Andrea & Partners, to the meeting. She will share her legal analysis and insights on the Apostille Convention.
