The European Union Chambers of Commerce in Korea and China jointly held a workshop in
Shanghai, China on customs’IP enforcement. The meeting featured participation from the
Shanghai Customs, the Korea Customs Service and the Philippines Bureau of Customs, as
well as customs attachés from the Netherlands, UK, France and Germany, and representatives
from major European brand owners.
The meeting commenced with welcoming remarks from Ioana Kraft, General Manager of the
Shanghai branch of the European Chamber of Commerce in China (European Chamber in
China), and Tom Duke, Director of the IP Centre at the European Union Chamber of
Commerce in Korea (EUCCK).
The meeting represented the latest in a series of coordinated IP events hosted by members of the European Business Organisation (EBO) network, an alliance of similar associations
across the world. The aims of this series are to bring together IP enforcement agencies and
brand owners in order to:
- Understand how established cross-border enforcement mechanisms work
- Work together to enhance these channels and achieve better coordinated enforcement
Meeting Chair Doug Clark added a specific aim of clarifying the requirements by customs
officials of brand owners in order to achieve better front-line enforcement.
