The European Chamber, together with the Benelux Chamber, is delighted to invite you to a breakfast seminar providing an analysis of the financial markets and an outlook on what can be expected for the rest of this year and beyond.
With continuing unpredictability for financial markets around the world, of which Europe seems to grab the headlines most, it is especially difficult to make strategic decisions for business growth. Asia has often been considered a safer channel for investment, but regional tensions persist in many spheres.
Speakers Tim Condon and Harald Benink will be providing insights and predictions on some of the key financial territories including Europe, China and the USA.

Tim Condon, Cheif Economist Asia, ING Financial Markets
Tim Condon is Chief Economist, Asia for ING Bank, based in Singapore. After earning a Ph.D. in economics from Georgetown University, Tim began his career as an economist with the World Bank in Washington, DC. There he worked as an economist covering Hungary from 1987 to 1992 and, from 1992 to 1996, Indonesia, when he was based at the World Bank’s Jakarta office. Tim left the World Bank in 1996 to join Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong as an economist covering Southeast Asia. He gained considerable exposure among investors as well as regional government officials during the Asian financial crisis. In 1999 Tim moved to ING Barings, now known as ING Bank, to head the firm’s financial markets research for Asia ex-Japan, based in Hong Kong. While there he served as an external advisor to the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary Research, an economic research institute established by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Tim has overall responsibility for ING Bank’s Asian fixed income research. He is directly responsible for the macroeconomic forecasts, including GDP, inflation, interest rates and exchange rates. He moved to Singapore in August 2004. |
Prof. Dr. Harald A. Benink, Professor of Banking and Finance and Fellow of the Centre for Economic Research (CentER), Tilburg University, Senior Research Associate to the Financial Markets Group (FMG), London School of Economics (LSE)
Harald Benink (1964) has been Professor of Banking and Finance and Fellow of the Centre for Economic Research (CentER) at Tilburg University since 2008. Furthermore, Prof. Benink has been a Senior Research Associate to the Financial Markets Group (FMG) of the London School of Economics (LSE) since 2001. At Tilburg University he also served as Dean of International Affairs at the School of Economics and Management during 2008-2011. Before joining Tilburg University, Harald Benink was Professor of Finance at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University during the period 1999-2008. At RSM, he also served as Founding Chairman and Dean of the BSc/MSc in International Business Administration program and as an Executive Director of RSM Corporation with a primary responsibility for executive education. Harald Benink holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Tilburg University, a Master’s degree in Financial Economics from TiasNimbas Business School, Tilburg University and received his Ph.D. degree in Finance and Economics from Maastricht University. |
