What is Sustainable Business Awards? How will the applicants be evaluated? What makes a successful case? In order to support Shanghai member companies to better fill in the awards application forms and understand the whole evaluation process when applying, we are organizing an information session on 21st May at 10:00 -11:30 am with expert from SYNTAO and judge last year to introduce the awards at the Chamber Shanghai office.

After 1945, the liberal-democratic model of capitalism spread across the globe, ultimately prevailing over communism. Over the past two decades, a new statist-authoritarian model has begun diffusing across Asia. Rather than rejecting capitalism, authoritarian leaders harness it to uphold their rule. Based on extensive research of East Asia's largest corporations and sovereign wealth funds, this book argues that the most aggressive version of this model does not belong to China. Rather, it can be found in Malaysia and Singapore. Although these countries are small, the implications are profound because one-third of all countries in the world possess the same type of regime. With an increasing number of these authoritarian regimes establishing sovereign wealth funds, their ability to intervene in the corporate sectors of other countries is rapidly expanding.

The passage of the new foreign investment law shows China is serious about addressing foreign investors’ concerns, as it continues to open up its domestic market, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said at this year’s China’s Two Sessions.

China is now picking up the pace on its new foreign investment law, which has been many years in the making. With the new foreign investment law, China is granting national treatment to foreign investment in a more comprehensive manner. The law will explicitly support international companies in China in carrying out more independent innovation and market expansion, as well as partner with domestic companies to develop both Chinese and other markets in economies related to the Belt and Road Initiative.
